On a warm October evening of 1830, in a small mud-hut hospital at the heart of the new Swan River colony, the first European child in that region was born. The birth of the young girl was cause for celebration: her birth sealed the productive and fertile future of the colony.
At first she instilled awe and zeal in her fellow settlers as she promptly excelled in any field of endeavour she put in her mind to attempt. But that would soon change.
